What Alif stores, what it doesn't, and how lesson videos are delivered.
What the app stores
Stored on the device only. Data leaves the app only when a grown-up deliberately uses an export or share feature described in this policy:
- The first name you type for each learner
- Which lessons have been finished, stars earned, and practice days
- Per-skill accuracy — letter recognition, ḥarakāt, handwriting, and so on
- Assignments a parent or teacher has set
- The grown-up's name and role, and a hash of their PIN — never the PIN itself
- Up to 25 privacy-filtered technical error categories, without raw messages or stacks
Deleting the app removes all of it. There is no backup on our side, because there is no "our side".
Voice recordings
The Sound Check activity records a learner saying a letter so they can hear it back.
- The recording is held only for as long as that activity is on screen.
- It is never uploaded, never stored in the learner's history, and never analysed.
- There is no speech recognition in this app.
- The microphone is used for nothing else. Your device asks permission first, and declining leaves the rest of the app fully usable.
The video player
Lessons are original clips owned by The Higaad Institute and streamed from Alif's own media library, delivered through Cloudflare. The app does not load YouTube, Google advertising, or a third-party video player during normal lesson playback.
- A media request necessarily includes the device's IP address and basic connection information so Cloudflare can deliver the requested file.
- The request does not include a learner's name, answers, recordings, progress, advertising identifier, or an Alif account identifier.
- Alif does not use media requests for advertising, analytics, profiling, or tracking across apps or websites.
- A grown-up may optionally save videos for offline use. Those copies stay in the app's private storage on that device and can be removed at any time.
Cloudflare's handling of the network request is governed by its privacy policy.
Children
The app is designed for children learning to read Qurʾānic Arabic, and is built so that a child's activity stays on their own device. We do not receive personal information from children because the app does not send it to us.
The learner name is free text and stays local. Nothing requires a real name — an initial or a nickname works perfectly well, and for a shared classroom device that may be the better choice.
The grown-ups' area
The PIN on the parent and teacher area is a child lock, not a security feature. It keeps a child out of the settings. It does not protect the data against an adult who already has the unlocked device.
Optional safe diagnostics
The grown-up area can create a technical report for troubleshooting. Nothing is uploaded automatically, and the grown-up sees the report before choosing whether to share it.
- By default it contains only the app version and build, platform, and a privacy-filtered category, type, area, and time for recent technical errors.
- Raw error messages, stacks, routes, component data, and media links are discarded before the local error entry is stored.
- Names, PINs, recordings, answer content, lesson titles, scores, and media links are never included.
- A separate off-by-default control can add only the number of learner profiles and total completed lessons. The grown-up must confirm again before sharing.
- Saved technical errors can be cleared at any time.
